This app is a supplement to the interactive installation artwork of media artist Parasol B. The app is used to participate in the current installation, Depiction, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina from March 1 - May 31, 2013.
The app helps participants in the installation locate QR codes which are placed at visually interesting places around the city. Scanning the barcode at each site unlocks instructions for composing an interesting photo there. The participant can then use the app to submit their photo to the installations community photo gallery. Then, the participant can view their photos within this crowd-sourced photo gallery.
Notes:
• This app is specifically designed for users who are physically in the city of Chapel Hill for the duration of this exhibition.
• The app requires an internet connection.
• The app will request access to the users location information for helping the user locate the barcoded locations.
• The apps age ratings reflect the potential for varied content, since the photographic content is crowd-sourced and not necessarily moderated.
The current artwork of Parasol B is focused on combining traditional media, like painting, with new media, specifically smartphone technology, barcodes and the internet, placing these technologies in a new fine art context.
